Desktop Genetics - CRISPR for the Masses

How do you go about building a tech solution to a scientific problem? Well it certainly helps if you recognise that there's a problem to begin with. This was the starting point for the biologically trained founders of Desktop Genetics to really make waves in a field not known for moving fast (...or for breaking things). Borne out of the frustration of bench scientists, Desktop Genetics is a rapidly growing London based startup that makes CRISPR as easy to interact with as playlists in Spotify. They're building an AI that aids in experimental design and in data interpretation. And they're riding a wave of success including fresh investment, partnerships and their SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards win in 2016; given to those companies that inspire, innovate within our world of hyperconnectivity.

Desktop Genetics walks and talks like a tech startup, while providing a high quality service for life science researchers. The high value being placed on UX makes the case that this isn't the kind of company that is happy producing the standard academic toolset; it's a product you'd actually want to use.

We spoke to Riley Doyle and Edward Perello of Desktop Genetics back in Episode 6 of our Podcast which you can listen to here.
